Data collection. Averages (mean, median, mode) and range. Reading and constructing charts and graphs. Beginning critical interpretation of data.

NC outcomes (paraphrased)

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Describe, interpret and compare observed distributions of a single variable
  • Construct and interpret appropriate tables, charts, and diagrams (frequency tables, bar charts, pie charts, scatter graphs)
  • Calculate and use mean, median, mode, and range
  • Use these to compare distributions
  • Read graphs critically — recognising misleading representations
