The practical skills of running one’s own life. Housing, healthcare, personal admin, daily-life self-organisation, public services, transport, emergencies. Held as canonical content in its own right — for many EBSNA / SEMH learners, these are the genuinely hard skills, harder than English Literature, and they deserve the same explicit teaching.
Strands
- Housing and home — renting, sharing, tenancy, bills, home management
- Healthcare navigation and self-care — registering with services, using them, advocating for oneself
- Personal admin — banking, ID, forms, utilities, contracts, the digital bureaucracy of being an adult
- Daily-life self-organisation — cooking, planning, time management, transport, emergencies
Cornerstone framing
Connection (talking to landlords, GPs, councils, banks, transport staff), Reflection (knowing one’s own needs, advocating for them), Movement (transport, navigation, embodied competence in unfamiliar environments), Nutrition (cooking and food).
