Four PfA outcomes from the SEND Code of Practice for England. PfA is the spine of ASDAN’s My Independence and Preparing for Adulthood programmes, and a common framing for EHCP outcome statements.

The four outcomes

  • [[pfa/employment]] — paid employment, including self-employment
  • [[pfa/independent-living]] — having choice and control over one’s life and good housing
  • [[pfa/friends-relationships-community]] — community participation
  • [[pfa/good-health]] — physical and mental health

Use in NEO

The PfA tag is auxiliary — applied where a curriculum outcome has clear PfA alignment. Particularly useful for EHCP outcome mapping in commissioner reports: where a young person’s EHCP names PfA outcomes, the vault can evidence those directly from curriculum delivery via a tag query.

Care note for EBSNA cohort

Preparing-for-adulthood language can land oddly with younger or more anxious learners. Possible alternative: tag as PfA in back-end metadata but use softer language in learner-facing pages. See schema §10 Q5.
