The dominant GCSE Combined Science pathway for the existing Nudge North East cohort. Counts as two GCSEs (double award). NEO supports learners registered with AQA via revision and prep alongside their primary NEO programme.
There is no AQA equivalent of Edexcel’s Human Biology specifically — AQA offers single sciences (Biology 8461, Chemistry 8462, Physics 8463) or Combined Science Trilogy (8464) / Synergy (8465). For learners on the AQA pathway who would otherwise have done Edexcel Human Biology, the Trilogy biology component is the closest available match — but with a wider scope (because it sits alongside Chemistry and Physics) and less depth on body-system content.
Papers
Six papers (two each in biology, chemistry, physics), each 1h 15min, 70 marks, 16.7% of grade. Foundation tier (5–1) and Higher tier (9–4) available.
Working Scientifically
AQA gives Working Scientifically explicit billing — it accounts for at least 15% of overall qualification marks across all three sciences and underpins all content. See the canonical Working scientifically strand for full discussion.
Three components
- Biology — cell biology, organisation, infection and response, bioenergetics, homeostasis and response, inheritance and variation, ecology
- Chemistry — atomic structure, bonding, quantitative chemistry, chemical changes, energy, rate of reaction, organic chemistry, chemical analysis, atmosphere, using resources
- Physics — energy, electricity, particle model, atomic structure, forces, waves, magnetism
