How learning gets assessed by external bodies. Overlay outcome pages wikilink to the canonical Curriculum nodes they test.
The same canonical content can carry many overlays. A single canonical KS4 English Reading node, for example, is tested by Edexcel IGCSE 4EA1, AQA GCSE English Language, and Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills English Level 2 — three different overlays pointing at the same learning.
Some canonical content has no overlay at all (NEO-original Relating Intelligently and Girls in Green Futures). That’s fine — the curriculum stands on its own without external assessment.
NEO operational model
NEO does not run exam centres or hold awarding-body registration. Where a learner is being prepared for an external qualification, the registering body is the same as the awarding body — the LA / school / commissioner registers the learner, NEO supports curriculum delivery and revision. Exam Pathway as a separate concept (carried over from v0.2) has been folded into Overlay in v0.3.
GCSE / IGCSE overlays
- Pearson Edexcel International GCSE — NEO Year 1 primary offer; modular and onscreen options where available
- AQA GCSE — dominant pathway for the existing Nudge North East cohort
- Pearson Edexcel UK GCSE (placeholder; populate when needed)
- OCR GCSE (placeholder)
- Eduqas GCSE (placeholder)
Functional Skills overlays
- Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills — chosen by NEO as the FS awarding body (5 May 2026)
Underlying standard: Ofqual’s Functional Skills Subject Content for English / Maths (2018). All FS awarding bodies write specs against this content; switching board changes spec IDs but not canonical learning.
ASDAN overlays
- ASDAN Programmes — non-regulated, certificate-bearing (PDP, Lifeskills Challenge, Towards Independence, Transition Challenge, Workright, My Independence)
- ASDAN Short Courses — non-regulated, ~60 GLH each, subject-specific portfolio courses; NEO’s three priorities are Animal Care, Hair and Beauty, and FoodWise (drawn from cohort-popularity intelligence, May 2026)
- ASDAN Qualifications — Ofqual-regulated, portfolio-moderated by ASDAN (Employability, Personal Progress, Personal and Social Development)
Granularity convention
Overlay outcome IDs follow each awarding body’s own published numbering exactly. Edexcel AOs, AQA AOs, Pearson FS skill statements, ASDAN module codes — all retained as published, even where granularity differs across boards. The canonical-side wikilinks do the bridging work where granularity differs.
Public / private
Overlay summary pages are public. Verbatim spec text on outcome pages lives on the private side of the hybrid vault — copyright reasons. See Tagging Schema v0.3 §8.2.
