Pearson Edexcel’s UK-domestic GCSE qualifications. Not in NEO’s Year 1 offer. NEO’s primary Edexcel pathway is the International GCSE (IGCSE), not the UK GCSE — see Pearson Edexcel International GCSE for the route NEO supports directly.
The IGCSE was chosen for the Year 1 offer because:
- Modular and onscreen options are available where they are not always available on the UK GCSE
- The international cohort context offers richer source material in some subjects
- The Pearson IGCSE specifications are well-suited to learners who are not in mainstream
- IGCSE results are recognised by UK universities, sixth forms, employers, and apprenticeship providers on equal footing with UK GCSEs
When this overlay is populated
This overlay branch will be populated when a NEO learner is registered with Pearson Edexcel for a UK GCSE — typically because:
- The learner is dual-registered with a mainstream school that has registered them on the UK GCSE
- The commissioner / LA requires UK GCSE specifically (rare; usually the IGCSE is acceptable)
- A subject NEO does not yet offer at IGCSE is being supported through the UK GCSE specification
In those cases, NEO supports curriculum delivery and revision against the UK GCSE specification but does not register learners with Pearson Edexcel directly.
Same architecture as IGCSE
When populated, the structure mirrors Pearson Edexcel IGCSE:
- Subject-level pages naming the qualification (Edexcel UK GCSE English Language 1EN0, Maths 1MA1, etc.)
- Assessment Objective pages (AO1, AO2, etc.) with paraphrased outcome statements and source citations
- Wikilinks back to the canonical Curriculum node each AO tests
- Cross-overlay equivalents linking to the IGCSE and AQA equivalents where the canonical territory is the same
NEO operational note
For learners on UK GCSE pathways, NEO’s value-add is curriculum delivery, revision, and pastoral support — not registration. The registering body is the school, LA, or commissioner that holds the formal entry.
